Mission

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Staci Almager is a seasoned nonprofit leader with more than two decades of experience driving mission-aligned growth through strategic development, high-impact partnerships, and community-focused leadership. Before joining the International Rett Syndrome Foundation as Chief Development Officer, she served as CEO of Hill Country Family Services, where she transformed the organization’s operations, expanded behavioral health and crisis response programs, and built a diversified, sustainable funding model to meet the needs of a rapidly growing community.

Tim Horton joined the United States Marine Corps in October 2003. Tim was assigned to Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines (Fox 2/5), where he prepared for deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. On February 5, 2005, while on a mobile patrol, Tim was severely injured by a remotely detonated improvised explosive device (IED). Following 18 months of recovery/rehabilitation Tim, for the past 14 years, has dedicated his career to serving fellow veterans and their families through his work with the Wounded Warrior Project. In his role, Tim has helped connect warriors, families, teammates, and communities with the support and resources they need.

Shane Stolarczyk serves as the County Judge of Kendall County, Texas, since January 1, 2023. He oversees county operations and judicial matters, focusing on community engagement and transparency. As County Judge, Shane emphasizes community involvement and transparency in government, creating committees to engage citizens in local decision-making.

Kathy Veen has been in the aquatic industry for 40 years starting as an undergraduate Student Athlete, Rec Sports employee at Sam Houston State and later moving to a Graduate Assistant position at University of North Texas. Kathy was the original Aquatic Director for Memorial Athletic Club and Aquatic Center in May 1989 and guided a team of 60+ employees. One highlight of her MAC career was the design and development of their indoor aquatic center that opened May 1999 serving 500+ members and guests daily.

US Army Sergeant First Class (Retired) Victor Medina, MRC, CRC is a Purple Heart Recipient and a National Traumatic Brain Injury Advocate. In June 2009, while serving his third tour in Iraq, Victor was wounded when an explosive-formed projectile impacted his vehicle. He was medically evacuated and was diagnosed with moderate traumatic brain injury. TBI Warrior® Foundation is the result of sacrifice and love for our country and its citizens with brain injuries and their families. Whether active military, veteran, individual, or child in the community at large, TBI Warrior® Foundation is the organization that was founded to bring the community together to find solutions to meet the needs with Hope, Love, and Selfless Service.
