About Boerne Blaze

Boerne Blaze Special Olympics (BBSO) is a group for individuals with special needs seeking an equitable opportunity to participate in a variety of sports in a safe, inclusive, and encouraging way. Previously known as Boerne Special Olympics (BSO), it is also a welcoming place for families to find support and for volunteers to experience a meaningful way to help others. We are a family "WHERE EVERYONE IS SPECIAL!"

Current sports offered at various times during the year are:

  • Aquatics

  • Basketball

  • Bowling

  • Cycling

  • Disc Golf

  • Duathlon (cycling and running/walking)

  • Kayaking

  • Pickleball

  • Tennis

  • Topgolf

  • Triathlon (swimming, cycling, and running/walking)

Practices for each sport are in the afternoons (after school) and usually 2 times per week for at least 2 months. Several sports overlap in duration. At the end of each sport, we have some kind of local event. We also participate in an area competition in most of the sports and have been going to state in 3 of the sports with a small number of athletes.

We compete at the state level in 3 sports and took a unified team (2 BBSO athletes and 2 partners) to the National Bowling tournament in March 2023 for the first time!
